《中级英语口语》课程实施方案 1. Course Information INSTRUCTOR: Mary G. Heyman, Lecturer Course Title:(中文)中级英语(口语) (英文)Intermediate English (Speaking) Course Code: IBS314 Learning Credits:3.0 Total hours: 48 2. Course Team and Lecturer Information (1) COURSE DESCRIPTION: While Chinese students may be well-informed as to grammar, it is commonly perceived that they are weaker in terms of oral fluency. Hence, the focus of this course is on improving students’ fluency and confidence in speaking in various situations such as recitations, conversations, group discussions, and class discussions. To promote maximum participation, topics ranging from cross-cultural issues, leisure activities/views, daily living, etc., will be covered. As mentioned earlier, students’ interest will also be aroused through the listening activity at the beginning of many lessons. Encouraging keen participation from the students is an important consideration of the course as this will help us achieve the goal of increasing students’ fluency since greater student interest will increase the amount of student talk and, concomitantly, the effort to make oneself understood. While fluency is a priority, accuracy will not be ignored. The teacher will give corrective feedback at appropriate points of the students’ utterances. Classroom strategies may include activities such as pair work, group work, timed thinking and speaking activities, and games to sustain interest as well as provide different contexts for speaking. Students who participate and who follow both written and oral instructions to the best of their ability will be recognized.
