WHO has been increasing its support to the Codex Alimentarius Commission in making science-based decisions, through convening independent expert meetings, such as the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Foods Additives (JECFA) and the Joint Meeting on Pesticide Residues (JMPR). On top of these, WHO in collaboration with FAO, has increased significantly its efforts relative to risk assessment of microbiological hazards in foods and the safety assessment of foods derived from biotechnology.
