ACCT5002 2017S2 Week 5 Feedback and Common Weakness
Overall, there is some lack of understanding of the key concepts on issues with cost allocation,
particularly, single rate and dual rate, actual and budgeted usage, insulating and non-
insulating cost. RASA performance was consistent with the previous weeks, even a littlter
in some streams. Generally, the business practical performance improved this week as
detailed below.
RASA
•You had a similar performance on RASA this week. The concept questions were
answered really well. You knew how to allocate support department costs using direct
method, but some of you had trouble using step-down method.
•The scores were particularly low for Q5 in some streams. The key to this question is
understanding the implications for using actual vs budgeted usage in cost allocations.
•The lack of understanding of support department cost allocation in using the step-
down method was evident in results for q8. The question stated the support
department that should be allocated first. If not stated in the question the general
approach is to firstly allocate the support department that provides the most services
to other support departments. The second-ranked department should then be
allocating to operating departments only (including the support allocation from the
first-ranked support department).
BP
•There were improvements in BP. Unfortunately, some teams went backwards.
•The analysis questions were well answered by most of the teams, but the calculations
were not difficult this week.
•Some of you didn’t study the additional reading. You had difficulty completing the
