Formanypeopleacrosstheglobe,mobile

connectivityplaysacriticalroleintheirdaily

lives.Itenablespeopletocommunicatewith

others,andtoaccessinformationandservices

fromanywhere.Acrosslow-andmiddle-incomecountries(LMICs),mobileistheprimary,andin

somecasesonly,waypeopleaccesstheinternet.In2024,mobileaccountedfor84%ofbroadbandconnections1andover3.7billionpeopleaccessedtheinternetonamobilephoneinLMICs.2

TheWorldHealthOrganization(WHO)

estimatesthataround16%oftheworld’s

population,whichequatesto1.3billionpeople,experiencesignificantdisability.3Mobiledevicesandserviceshavethepotentialtoprovide

substantiallife-changingbenefitstopersons

withdisabilities,offeringaccesstocritical

servicesinanincreasinglydigitalworld.For

personswithdisabilities,mobilephonescan

bepowerfulassistivetoolsforinclusionand

participationbecauseoftheirbuilt-infeaturesandassistivetechnology(AT)apps,withmobileinternetprovidingaccesstocriticalinformation,healthcare,education,e-commerce,financial

services,andincome-generatingopportunities.

technology’spotentialtodeliverservicestothoseinneed,andgrowingrecognitionoftheneed

fortargetedactionforpersonswithdisabilities,4theyremain
