We often hear, read and talk about it, such as tea culture, Chinese culture, computer culture and so on. Culture is the combination of material civilization and spiritual civilization of the whole society. It is estimated that there are more than 164 definition of culture.1 Different people define?“culture” in different ways. The classic definition of culture which was provided by the 19th century English anthropologist Edward Burnet Tyler is that culture is a complex whole, which included knowledge belief, art, morals, law, customs, other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society.2 Chinese scholars, such as Hu Wenzhong and Jia Yuxin, have defined culture into two senses. In a broad sense, culture refers to all the material and spiritual products created by man. In a marrow sense, it refers only to spiritual products including language, literature, fine arts and so on.3 In my opinion, people, who speak different languages and have different religions and values, have different views about things, so cultural differences appear. Cultural differences, especially the cultural differences between Eastern and Western countries may cause different understandings on the same object, and sometimes they may lead to misunderstandings and even conflicts.???? Number whose original meaning is the same in both English and Chinese, is a special language mark. With the development of history, some numbers, which are used by different nations and affected by the elements, like religion, history and social customs, have different symbolic significances.
