Abstract：ThispaperprovidesacasestudyofBeijingmetropolitanareatoexploretherelationshipbetween
employmentandresidentiallocations．WithdatafromthesecondnationalcensusofbasicunitsofBeijingand
thefifthpopulationcensusofBeijing，theauthorsconstructgeographydatabaseontheplatformofgeorgaphy
informationsystem softwareSOastorevealthespatialdistributionsofemplomy entandlivingsites．Basedon
that，theyidentifyemplomy entcentersandlivingcenters，aimingatevaluatingthelocalbalancesbetweenem—
plomy entandresidentialsites．Accordingtodifferentdividingstandards，9high-densityemplomy entcenters，
4emplomy entsub—centersand6emplomy entintensiveareasareidentifiedwithtoolsofrgidanalysisinGIS．
Thedrivingforcesoftheseemplomy entcentersarecomplicated， buturbanplanandtheallocationoflarge
scalecorporations， industrialparksandgovernmentofficesmightexertatremendousinfluence． Despiteof
lackofaccuratelivingsitesdata， theauthorshavetakendataofstreetsfrom thefifthpopulationcensusof
Beijinginsteadtoidentifyresidentialcenters．12high—densityresidentialcentersininnercity，4residential
sub—centersinsuburbsand6residentialsub—centersinoutersuburbsarepickedoutrespectively．Theresiden—
tialspatialstructureisaffectedrgeatlybylivingsuburbanizationandlandtransfermarket．Conclusioncomes
