ThisstudypresentsanAbsoluteWealthIndex(AWI)basedonthenumberofmodemgoodsandamenitiesownedby
ahousehold．Thisindexisshowntobeapowerfultoolforassessingdifferentialsinvarioushealthanddemographic
outcomes(fertility，mortaliyt，nuptialiyt，education，nutritionalstatus)，andthatitcna beusedinavarietyofwaysfor
measuringpovertyandinequalities，includingGinicoefficient．Itssimplicitydoesnotreduceitsscreeningvalue．The
AWlisinterpretedasameasureofthedegreeofmodernizationnadofhouseholdintegrationintomodem economy．
