Firstly, standard codebook model building and testing process was introduced and its defects were analyzed. Then improvements of the standard 25 algorithm was elaborately discussed from four aspects, namely development on time, color space, parameter update and background state. Both standard algorithms and recent advances are included in each aspect. Finally, the prospects of codebook detecting algorithm were presented.
