Step1. Lead-in
1. Do you still remember something from our discussion on Egypt in Unit 1 and 2?
2. What is Egypt famous for?
3. Are there any people buried in them?
4. Are there any treasures inside the tombs of the pyramids?
5. Have the tombs ever been robbed of treasures by people?
Step2. Background information
1. What might be the connections between ‘The curse of the mummy’ and the famous explorer?
2. Do you think the title can attract your attention and arouse your interest?[来源:学科网]
3. What might be dealt with in the following article?
4. Can something like the explorer’s hobbies, his experiences of adventures, his achievements be covered in the article?
Step 3. Reading
1. Reading the first paragraph and answer the following questions.

(2)What does the writer tell us about the explorer in this paragraph?
(3)What words do you think are useful for you to predict the ideas included in the passage? (famous, brave, adventurous, amazing)
2. Predicting the following paragraphs

(2)Will they give specific examples to support the general description of Howard Carter?
4. What about the scientific explanation to the curse of the mummy?
Inside the tomb, there are many viruses. When a tomb is opened, fresh air disturbs the viruses. If breathed in, they can result in illness or even death.
