( Taiyuan Maternal and Infant Health Care Hospital of Shanxi Province, T aiyuan 030012, China) Abstract Obj ective To investigate the incidence and risk factors of abnormal gestat ional glucose tolerance ( GDM GIGT) . Methods A prospect ive casecontrol study was performed in 59 w omen w ith abnormal gesta tional glucose tolerance ( 31 GDM and 29 GIGT) and 110 of normal oral glucose t olerance test ( OGTT ) from June 2005 t o December 2005 in Taiyuan M aternal and Infant H ealth Care H ospital. T he risk factors of the two groups were compared. Results The incidence of abnormal gestational glucose metabolism was 76% , including 40% of GDM and 36% GIGT . Prepregnancy body mass index (BMI) , gestational w eight gains, family hist ory of diabetes mellitus, history of poor pregnant out come, age 30, H BsAg ( + ) were significant ly higher in GDM/ GIGT than those of cont rol group ( P 005) . Conclusions The incidence of abnormal gestational glucose tolerance in our hos pital is similar t o that in Beijing. Therefore it is necessary to conduct scre
