Chapter 10 Picked SKU Quantity and Quality Check and Pack Actiity Introduction In check and pack activities, picked or picked/sorted SKUs are handled and scanned. Depending on the warehouse design, picked SKU check and pack activities can be separate or combined activities. Whether a warehouse handles small items, master cartons, or pallets, picked SKU check and pack activity occurs, to some degree, in all warehouses. In broad terms, a picked SKU check activ- ity matches a small-item, master-carton, or pallet picked SKU quantity/description to a packing slip/invoice, and ensures that each picked SKU matches the warehouse’s quality standards. Pack activity ranges from picked small items that are placed into a prepared sealed delivery container to master cartons or pallets that have been wrapped for protection, but each picked SKU is ready for delivery and has a delivery address label on a carton, tote, or pallet exterior. Picked SKU Check Activity A picked SKU quantity and quality check activity is designed for a manual, mechanized, or auto- mated pick operation. In a pick activity, a picked SKU quantity and quality check i.e., pick activity accuracy ensures that the pick transaction for a SKU quantity matches the packing slip quantity and quality, or the picked SKU quantity and description matches the packing slip SKU quantity and description. At a check station, the SKU quantity, description, and weight is voice directed or appears on a digital display, label, or a paper document, which permits a checker or a machine to verify the picked SKU accuracy. It should be noted that an employee-based or RF-device check design verifies both the picked SKU quantity and quality check; a mechanical-scale–based check design verifies only the quantity. 377 ? 2008 by Taylor Francis Group, LLC 378 n ?A Supply Chain Logistics Program for Warehouse Management WMS IDENTIFIED CUSTOMER ORDERS AND WMS IDENTIFIED SKUS WAREHOUSE COMPUTER FOR CHECK ACTIVITY
