Comparison of Two Surgical Methods in the Treatment of Calcaneal Fracture Speciality: Orthopedics of TCM Author: Yu Wen Chao Tutor: Prof Li Gang Abstract Objective ：To compare the clinical effects between the surgical techniques of percutaneous reduction by leverage with Kirschner pins and the open reduction and internal fixation with plate and screws in treating of calcaneal fracture. Methods ：From December 2009 to November 2011, 40 patients with intra-articular fractures of the calcaneus were treated in two different ways.20 feet were treated with Kirschner pins.Another 20 feet were treated with plate and screws.The classification of the postoperative function was based on the Maryland Foot Score. Results ：40 cases were followed up for 6-18 months,an average of 9 months.There was no significant difference (P0.05) between therapeutic group and control group in the period of knitting and postoperative complications and the Böhlers degree.And the reduction of Gissanes degree of therapeutic group was obviously better than the control group treated with percutaneous reduction by leverage and internal fixation Kirschner wire. According to differences of the Maryland foot score,the total effective rate in 2 groups was 90%50%.For the patients of Type III and IV fractures,plate and screws were more better than Kirschner pins. Conclusion：Both the surgical techniques of Percutaneous reduction by leverage with Kirsehner Pins and the open reduction and internal fixation with plate and screws can achieve satisfactory results. According to types of fracture、coverage of soft tissue and the condition of patients，different surgical methods can be used to treat the fracture of calcaneus. Key wor
