* * * * * * * * * * These are the strategies that TPM utilizes to achieve Zero Breakdowns and with each strategy we offer a methodology. Our challenge is to follow the correct methodology that will allow us to achieve these strategies. * There may still be those who are not sure whether or not we need TPM in our plant so just to be sure I have a little questionnaire I want everyone to look at. Read each item on the front and back and check any item that applies to your work station,your work area,or your equipment. When you finished please lay your pencils down so I will have an indication of when we are ready to proceed. After everyone is done say “If you checked even one of the items on the check sheet then you need TPM in your facility. This little questionnaire also begins to indicate to you how broadly TPM addresses many of the critical areas in your plant. * We have already talked about a lot of issues regarding our manufacturing operations and becoming more efficient. I want the Team Leader to go to the flip chart at this time and then I want each individual to think of those items that today keep you from running your machines 100% of the time when you want them to run and making 100% quality when they do run. The Team Leader will write down what everyone says. After the exercise state” If I was to go around the table and ask each of you how many years of manufacturing experience you have,regardless of where you got it,how many years of experience do you think we have in this room? Now say “With ________ years of manufacturing experience sitting here in this room I want someone to tell me which item on the flip chart we cannot solve?” State “What is the problem?” – No team work – everyone has their own fiefdom. We are all responsible to get the product out of the door at the lowest cost in the quickest time. * This exercise has been conducted in TPM Workshops around the World and we find that many of the causes are all universal.
