ABSTRACT About ten years ofeconomic reform in China have brought US a great wave of large—scale production and consumption．This made the retailing expand and flourish quickly．The economic efficiency of retailing enterprises，especially that of the city ones has been greatly improved。Retailing WaS an allocating institution to insure the supply before．But now it has become an industry hotspot of our economy．In recent years，more and more retailing enterprises of foreign capital entered our market；the competition of retailing market is picking up．The disadvantages ofmanagement ofretailing gradually beeome clear．Management of many enterprises ran into difficulties．Bankruptcies of city retailing enterprises are frequently reported in the news．The behind_hand retailing have evidently restricted the development of economy．With the development of world economy merging into all organic whole．modernization and intemationalization of the business circulation is in great demand，which bring a much fiercer challenge to our city retailing enterprises．It is an urgent assignment to renovate our retailing．The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze the problem of retailing，and to search the way of our retailing by using the advanced experience for reference． The thesis is composed of four parts．Among them Part 111 and PartⅣare the emphasis． In order to find the rule of retailing development and the main force which impulse the development of retailing，the first part discusses the process of retailing reformation in the West． Part II introduces the process of retailing development from 1949 in China． In addition，there is a briefdescription ofthe retailing reality in China in part two． Part HI mainly analyzes the deficiency of the main retailing forms in China and points out the reason． Aiming at the deficiency of retailing，the last part brings out the main countermeaSure that Can help the retailing enterprises in china become greater and more modem．This needs not only the adjustment a
