5 Programming Concepts and Job Planning
5 Programming Concepts and Job Planning Some terms: Address Block Datum Miscellaneous code (M-code) Modal Preparatory code (G-code) Simultaneously Analogous Loose end a.k.a Consistently Suppression Awkward Reliability Annotation Qualify Dowel Socket-head cap screw Exaggerated Nominal Arbitrary Murky Dictate Off-the-shelf At will Readily Personnel 5.1 Programming with G M codes Modern CNC machine tools can be programmed to perform machining operation with a language commonly referred to as G M codes. G-codes and M-codes are simple instructions that the programmer will write to make the machine behave in a certain way. Let’s look at a short NC program: % O0001 (Program 5.1) N10 G20 G40 G49 G54 G80 G90 G98 N20 M06 T03 (.25 EM) N30 G43 H03 N40 M03 S2000 N50 G00 X.5 Y.5 N60 G00 Z.2 N80 G01 Z-.1 F5.0 N90 G01 X.5 Y1.5 F10 N100 G01 X1.5 Y1.5 N110 G01 X1.5 Y.5 N120 G01 X.5 Y.5 The NC part program is made up of distinct units of instruction called blocks (or just plain lines). The MCU will read and execute the blocks sequentially. Sometimes the blocks are numbered using N10,N20, etc, but these sequence numbers are not required. 5.4 Modal and Non-modal Codes Modal and non-modal are the terms used to describe the two classes of codes used in NC programming regarding their ability to remain in the MCU’s memory. Non-modal codes are used just once and then discarded. Modal commands, on the other hand, remain in the active memory until they are replaced by another code (superseded). Programming codes are grouped into different categories of related functions, as listed in Table 5-2 (in the book). Only one code from each group can be active at any one time. For example, G00 and G01 are in the same group. Therefore, you cannot invoke G00 and G01 at the same time. However, G01 and G90 are in different groups and can be active at the same time. The vast majority of codes are modal. M-codes are not thought of as modal or non-modal. But a few M-codes act like moda
