Photodiode array sensors use linear CCD array as the sensing device and a lens to focus the light emitted by the product. The spectral sensitivity of the CCD (0.5 to 1.2 μm) does not permit to work on steel below 700°C. The sensitivity of this technology cannot be used for special steel with low emissivity and will cause problems in presence of steam, water, fumes. For these different reasons DELTA is recommending for loop control in Wire Rod Mill to use sensors with infrared scanning principle (type Rota-Sonde TS2006). CCD photosensors (type TSP) are used for loop control in processing line, in combination with a backlight.
