Isometric Drawing A pictorial view is a view of an object which shows all three dimensions in the one view. The three dimensions are: Length Breadth Height Designers and graphic artists need to be able to draw or illustrate pictorial views in order to show clearly their ideas to a client or intended customer. It gives a three dimensional view of an object (3D for short). There are several different ways in which on object can be drawn in 3D. The pictorial views most often used by designers are shown below: At this time, we are only interested in isometric drawing. Students who decide to do Graphic Communication in 3rd year will have the opportunity to develop skills in the other types of pictorial views. In this UNIT, you will: (1) Learn how to draw isometric views from given orthographic views. (2) Learn about scale and how to draw scaled isometric views. (3) Learn how to print neatly using guide lines and capital letters. Copy the following information to your jotter; An isometric view is one type of pictorial view. The word Isometric comes from the Greek word isos which means equal; and metron which means measure. An Isometric view will show all three dimensions - length, breadth and height. An isometric view is drawn at 30o using 30o/60o set square. 30o/60o Set Square 30o/60o set square is shown opposite. The set square is used with a tee square. Always use the set square sitting on top of the tee square. Shown Below.   Stage 1 Measure up 30 mm from the bottom of the page and draw a FEINT line across the paper. Measure 80 mm along this line from the left hand edge of the paper and mark a point. Draw in the vertical leading edge. This line should be drawn as a FEINT line.
