The poem merges Shelly’s passion and revolutionary spirit with the west wind, its metre, form and idea integrating perfectly to fully express the author’s thoughts. However, as poem is the most senior form of literature, the faithful translation of it is far from easy. This paper firstly gives brief introduction of the poem from aspects of content and form, and of the latest theories on poetry translation, especially theories made by Xu Yuanchong and Newmark, then it goes on to compare the two Chinese versions of the poem by Yang Xiling and Guo Moruo from the aspect of the theory of three beauties, with the aim that it will provide some reference to poem translation. Differences in eastern and western cultures and languages also account for the difficulty in poem translation. Ode to the West Wind is a household-known poem by P.B. Shelly, which provides many aspects to be studied itself. This paper shed light on the comparative study on two Chinese versions of the Ode to the West Wind, with the aim of heightening ones own and others understanding and appreciation of the original work and the translated versions.
