Methods Adopting international standards for the diagnosis, 30 cases with mild to moderate vascular dementia were treated by modified Buyanghuanwu decoction, six months as a course of treatment. 30 patients of the control group were treated by Yinxingye Tablets. Results After using modified Buyanghuanwu decoction, MMSE scores were increased (P lt;0.05), ADL and BBS scores were lowered (P lt;0.001, P lt;0.01, respectively), there was a significant difference comparing with the control group. Moreover, cognition, memory, social activities and life abilities were improved significantly. Conclusion Modified Buyanghuanwu decoction has a certain therapeutic value for vascular dementia. Keywords:: vascular dementia, modified Buyanghuanwu decoction December 2001 -2004 in December, I used flavored BYHWD treatment of vascular dementia (VD) in 30 patients, the results reported below. 1 Clinical data 1.1 Diagnostic criteria By the United States of Nervous and Mental Disease Diagnosis and Classification Manual (4th edition) revised diagnostic criteria of dementia (DSM-Ⅳ-R) on the diagnostic criteria for vascular dementia [1]: ① memory impairment. ② one or more cognitive barriers, including aphasia, apraxia, agnosia, executive function disorders. ③ ① or ② for any of the cognitive deficits caused significant damage to social or professional capacity (level of functioning than before significant deterioration). ④ above factors related to the etiology of disease, nervous system, local symptoms and signs, laboratory examinations showed evidence of cerebrovascular disease (such as cortical or subcortical white matter of multiple infarction). ⑤ exclude delirium. 1.2 I
