TheRenin-AngiotensinSystem(RAS)actsatmultipletargetsandhasitssynthesismachinerypresentindi?erenttissues,including theheart.Actually,itiswellknownthatbesidesAngII,theRAShasotheractivepeptides.Ofparticularinterestistheheptapeptide Ang-(1-7)thathasbeenshowntoexertcardioprotectivee?ects.Inthisway,greatcompilationsaboutAng-(1-7)actionsintheheart havebeenpresentedintheliterature.However,muchlessinformationisavailableconcerningtheAng-(1-7)actionsdirectlyin cardiomyocytes.Inthispaper,weshowtheactualknowledgeaboutAng-(1-7)-mediatedsignalingincardiaccellsmorespeci?cally weprovideabriefoverviewofACE2/Ang-(1-7)/Masaxis;andhighlightthediscoveriesmadeincardiomyocytephysiologythrough theuseofgeneticapproaches.Finally,wediscusstheprotectivesignalinginducedbyAng-(1-7)incardiomyocytesandpoint moleculardeterminantsofthesee?ects. 1.Introduction ofAT1Rpreventing,betweenothere?ects,itshypertrophic andangiogenice?ects[5,6].
