Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway has been implicated in pathophysiologyofmanyepithelialmalignancies,includingesophagealandstomachcancers.EGFRinhibitors,smallmolecule tyrosine kinase inhibitors and monoclonal antibodies, have been explored in patients with esophageal and gastric cancers. It appearsthattumorsofthedistalesophagusandgastroesophagealjunction(GEJ)maybemoresensitivetoEGFRblockadethan distalgastricadenocarcinomas.InvestigationslookingintopotentialmolecularpredictorsofsensitivitytoEGFRinhibitorsfor patientswithesophagealandGEJcancersareongoing.Whilewearestillsearchingforthosepredictors,itisclearthattheywill bedi?erentfromonesidenti?edinlungandcolorectalcancers.FurtherdevelopmentofEGFRinhibitorsforesophagealandGEJ cancersshouldbedrivenbybetterunderstandingofEGFRpathwaydisregulationthatdrivesc
