This is an open access article distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License,whichpermitsunrestricteduse,distribution,andreproductioninanymedium,providedtheoriginalworkisproperly cited. “Mucositis”istheclinicaltermusedtodescribeulcerationanddamageofthemucousmembranesoftheentiregastrointestinal tract(GIT)followingcytotoxiccancerchemotherapyandradiationtherapycommonsymptomsincludeabdominalpain,bloating, diarrhoea,vomiting,andconstipationresultinginbothasigni?cantclinicaland?nancialburden.Chemotherapeuticdrugscause upregulationofstressresponsegenesincludingNFκB,thatinturnupregulatetheproductionofproin?ammatorycytokinessuch as interleukin-1β (IL-1β), Interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). These proin?ammatory cytokines are responsibleforinitiatingin?ammationinresponsetotissueinjury.Anti-in?ammatorycytokinesandspeci?ccytokineinhibitors arealsoreleasedtolimitthesustainedorexcessivein?ammatoryreactions.Inthepastdecade,intensiveresearchhasdetermined theroleofproin?ammatorycytokinesindevelopmentofmucositis.However,alargegapremainsintheknowledgeoftheroleof anti-in?ammatorycytokinesinthesettingofchemotherapy-inducedmucositis.Thiscriticalpaperwillhighlightcurrentliterature availablere
