A comprehensive account of the theory of Besov spaces is given in Peetre’s book 2. In what follows we consider the Besov-Schatten spaces in the framework of matrices, for example,in?nitematrix-valuedfunctions.Theextensiontothematricealframeworkisbased on the fact that there is a natural correspondence between Toeplitz matrices and formal seriesassociatedto2π-periodicfunctionssee,e.g.,3–6.WeusethepowerfuldeviceSchur multipliersanditscharacterizationsinthecaseofToeplitzmatricestoprovesomeofthemain results.
