Thyroidcarcinomashowingsquamousdi?erentiationthroughouttheentirelesionisdiagnosedassquamouscellcarcinomaof the thyroid (SCCT) in the WHO classi?cation. This entity is a rare disease and shows a dire prognosis; however, squamous di?erentiationismorefrequentlydetectedinonlyaportionofpapillarythyroidcarcinoma.Inthispaper,wepresentourexperience of10patients(8primarylesionsand2withrecurrenceinthelymphnodes)withpapillarythyroidcarcinomahavinganSCC component(PTC-SCC).Only3of8primarylesions(38%)andnoneofthe2recurrentnodeswerepreoperativelydiagnosed asorsuspectedofhavingSCCcomponents.All10patientsunderwentlocallycurativesurgery.Todate,3patientshavediedof carcinoma,and2haddistantmetastasisatdiagnosisorhadanundi?erentiatedcarcinomacomponent.Theother7arecurrently alive5to43monthsafterdiagnosis.Systemicadjuvanttherapyafterthedetectionofrecurrencewase?ectivefor2patients.Itis possiblethatsomePTC-SCCpatientswithoutdistantmetastasiswhoundergolocallycurativesurgerycansurviveforaprolonged periodandadjuvanttherapiescanbee?ectiveforlocalanddistantrecurrences. 1.Introduction postoperat
