Objective.Toevaluatetherateofpretermbirthandlowbirthweightinthenewbornsofpregnantwomenwithearlyandlate onsetpre-eclampsiaaccordingtofolicacidsupplementation.Studydesign.Birthoutcomesofnewbornswereevaluatedin1,017 (2.7%)pregnantwomenwithmedicallyrecordedpre-eclampsiaand37,134pregnantwomenwithoutpre-eclampsiaasreference intheHungarianCase-ControlSurveillanceSystemofCongenitalAbnormalities,1980–1996,inadditionthesestudygroupswere di?erentiatedaccordingtothesupplementationofhighdoseoffolicacidalonefromearlypregnancy.Results.Pregnantwomen withpre-eclampsiaassociatedwithahigherrateofpretermbirth(10.2%versus9.1%)andlowbirthweight(7.9%versus5.6%). Therewasalowerriskofpretermbirth(6.8%)ofnewborninfantsborntopregnantwomenwithearlyonsetpre-eclampsiaafter folicacidsupplementationfromearlypregnancythoughtherateoflowbirthweightwasnotreducedsigni?cantly.Therewasno signi?cantreductionintherateofpretermbirthandlowbirthweightinpregnantwomenwithlateonsetpre-ecla
