Weexplorehowjudgmentaggregationandbeliefmergingintheframeworkoffuzzylogiccanhelpresolvethe“DoctrinalParadox.” Wealsoillustratetheuseoffuzzyaggregationfunctionsinsocialchoicetheory. 1.Introduction ofaggregationproceduresthatfailstoensureconsistencyin the set of collective judgments. Van Hees [11] has further generalizedtheparadoxbyshowingthatthereisevenalarger classofaggregationproceduresforwhichthisistrue. Social choice theory de?nes “preference aggregation” as forming collective preferences over a given set of alterna- tives.Likewise,“judgmentaggregation”pertainstoforming collectivejudgmentsonagivensetoflogicallyinterrelated propositions. This paper extends beyond classical proposi- tionallogicintotherealmofgeneralmultivaluedlogic,so thatwecanhandlerealisticcollectivedecisionproblems(see Dietrich and List [1, 2], List [3], Beg and Butt [4], and Manzini and Mariotti [5]). List and Pettit [6, 7] were the ?rsttogiveanaxiomatictreatmenttotheproblemassociated with judgment aggregation. In their classic example, a set of propositions is expressed in propositional calculus as {p,q,p∩q}.ThesetL={(0,0,0),(0,1,0),(1,0,0),(1,1,1)} consistsofallassignmentsof0or1tothepropositionsin {p,q,p∩q}thatarelogicallyconsistent.Aprocedureforn Theaimofthispaperistoresolvetheparadoxandal
