Objective.Blackthyroidisararepigmentedchangeseenalmostexclusivelyinpatientsuponminocyclineingestion,andtheprocess haspreviouslybeenthoughttobegenerallybenign.Therehavebeen61reportedcasesofblackthyroid.Weareawareof13cases previouslyreportedinassociationwiththyroidcarcinoma.Thispaperreportssixpatientswithblackthyroidpigmentationin associationwiththyroidcarcinoma.Design.Themedicalrecordsofsixpatientswhowerediagnosedwithblackthyroidsyndrome, allofwhomunderwentthyroidsurgery,werereviewed.Dataonage,gender,race,preoperative?neneedleaspirationbiopsy(FNA), thyroidfunctionlevels,andpathologyreportswerecollected.MainOutcome.Themeanagewas60years.Therewere5females,4of whomwereAfricanAmerican.Allpatientswereclinicallyandbiochemicallyeuthyroid.Blackpigmentationwasnotdiagnosedin preoperativeFNA,andonlyonepatienthadapreoperativediagnosisofpapillarythyroidcarcinoma.Theotherpatientsunderwent surgeryandwerefoundtohaveblackpigmentationofth
