In addition, new bioengineered synthetic materialsthatmimicextracellularmatrixcomponentscanbeusedasinitialsca?oldingforbuildingstemcellmicroenvironments. INTRODUCTION toobtainhighlyspecializedandfunctionalbioengineered tissues,weneedtoworkwithdevelopmentalparadigms where we use arti?cial materials that mimic stem cell compartments.Ifstemcellsself-renewinsuchcompart- ments,wehavemuchbetterchancesininstructingthem for proper di?erentiation.
