CandidaalbicansandCandidadubliniensisarehighlyrelatedpathogenicyeastspecies.However,C.albicansisfarmoreprevalentin humaninfectionandhasbeenshowntobemorepathogenicinawiderangeofinfectionmodels.Comparisonofthegenomesof thetwospecieshasrevealedthattheyareverysimilaralthoughtherearesomesigni?cantdi?erences,largelyduetotheexpansion ofvirulence-relatedgenefamilies(e.g.,ALSandSAP)inC.albicans,andincreasedlevelsofpseudogenisationinC.dubliniensis. Comparativeglobalgeneexpressionanalyseshavealsobeenusedtoinvestigatedi?erencesintheabilityofthetwospeciesto tolerateenvironmentalstressandtoproducehyphae,twotraitsthatarelikelytoplayaroleinthelowervirulenceofC.dubliniensis.
