Sedationinchildrenisincreasinglyemergingasaminimallyinvasivetechniquethatmaybeassociatedwithlocalanaesthesiaor diagnosticandtherapeuticprocedureswhichdonotnecessarilyrequiregeneralanaesthesia.Standardmonitoringrequirementsare notsu?cienttoensureane?ectivecontrolofpulmonaryventilationanddeepsedation.Capnographyinpediatricsedationassesses thee?ectofdi?erentdrugsontheoccurrenceofrespiratoryfailureandrecordsearlyindicatorsofrespiratoryimpairment.The Bispectralindex(BIS)allowsthereductionofdoserequirementsofanaestheticdrugs,thereductioninthetimetoextubationand eyeopening,andthereductioninthetimetodischarge.Inthe?eldofpediatricsedation,capnographyshouldberecommended topreventrespiratorycomplications,particularlyinspontaneousventilation.TheuseoftheBISindex,however,needsfurther investigationduetoalackofevidence,especiallyininfants.Inthispaper,wewillinvestigatetheroleofcapnographyandtheBIS indexinimprovingmonitoringstandardsinpediatricsedation. 1.Intr
