The aim of present study is to observe the association between the levels of ankle-brachial index (ABI) and cardiovascularriskfactorsamongpeoplewithtype2diabetesmellitusinnorthIndia.Across-sectionalstudywascarriedout atacentreforheartanddiabeticclinicinthestateofPunjabon1121subjects(671malesand450females)withtype2diabetes mellitus.Historyofsymptomsrelatedtocardiovasculardiseaseswasnoted,andbloodpressureandanthropometricmeasurements wererecorded.Ankle-brachialindex(ABI)wasmeasuredusingultrasonicDoppler?owdetector.SubjectswithABI ≤0.9and ≥1.30wereclassi?edashavinglowandhighABI,respectively.FemaleshadahigherBMIandbrachial-anklepulsewavevelocity (P0.001).Whereas,maleshadhigherdiastolicbloodpressureanddurationoftype2diabetesmellitus.Thedi?erencesofsystolic bloodpressureandankle-brachialindexwerenotfoundsigni?cantbetweenthesexes.TheprevalenceoflowABI(0.9)was4.47% inmenand4.67%inwomenandhighABI(≥1.30)wasprevalentin14%ofmenand10.45%ofwomen.Age,BMI,baPWV,and bloodpressuresweresigni?cantlyassociatedwithABIvalueinbothsexes.TheresultssuggestedthattheABImightbeusedasa strongindicatorforcardiovascularriskf
