We aimed to investigatetheseassociationsinaChinesepopulation. Methodology:Trunkfatmassandlegfatmassweredeterminedinacross-sectionalsampleof1,150Chinese(479menand 671women)aged50–70yearsbydual-energyX-rayabsorptiometryscan.Fastingplasmaferritinwasmeasured. PrincipalFindings:Plasmaferritinwaspositivelycorrelatedwithwaistcircumference,waist-to-hipratio,totalbodyfatand trunkfatmass,butinverselycorrelatedwithlegfatmassinmen(r=0.16,0.26,0.19,0.22and20.12,respectively,allP,0.05) and women (r=0.16, 0.16, 0.08, 0.17 and 20.12, respectively, all P,0.05). Multivariate regression analysis showed that ferritinlevelsincreasedwithlargertrunkfatmass(b=0.3360.08formenandb=0.2160.05forwomen,bothP,0.001) whiledecreasedwithlargerlegfatmass(b=20.1260.09,P=0.15formen;andb=20.1460.05,P=0.005forwomen). Moreover,plasmaferritinlevelsdecreasedwithincreasingtertileoflegfatmassamongeachtertileoftrunkfatmass. Conclusion:Thisisthefirststudytoreporttheoppositeassociationsoftrunkandlegfatdepotswithplasmaferritinlevels.
