Although,researchonprobioticshasbeencontinuingforthepastfewdecades,thesubjecthasbeencurrentlythe majorfocusofattentionacrosstheworldduetorecentadvancesandnewdevelopmentsingenomics, transcriptomics,proteomics,metabolomicsandemergenceofnewgenerationofhighthroughputsequencing technologiesthathaveimmenselyhelpedinunderstandingtheprobioticfunctionalityandmodeofactionfrom nutritionalandhealthperspectives.Thereisnowsufficientevidencebackedupwithgoodqualityscientificclinical datatosuggestthatprobioticinterventionscouldindeedbeeffectiveinvarioustypesofdiarrhealdiseases,other chronicgastrointestinalinflammatorydisorderslikepouchitis,necrotizingentero-colitis,allergicresponsesand lactoseintoleranceetc.Thisreportmakesamodestattempttogiveallthestakeholdersinvolvedindevelopment ofprobioticbasedfunctional/healthfoodsanoverviewofthecurrentstatusofprobioticsresearchattheGlobal andNationallevel.Themostcrucialissuesthatemergedfromtheleadtalksdeliveredbytheeminentspeakers fromIndiaandabroadwerethemajorfocusofdiscussionsindifferentplenaryandtechnicalsessions.Bydiscussing someoftheseissuesfromscientificperspecti
