Methods:Sevenhealthysubjectsandfivepatients(2obstructivesleepapnea,3 periodiclimbmovementdisorder)participatedinthisstudy.Nighttime polysomnography(PSG)recordingswereconducted,andelectrooculogram,EMG, electroencephalogram,electrocardiogram,andrespirationdatawerecollected.Time domainanalysisandfrequencydomainanalysiswereappliedtoestimatethesleep/ wakepatterns.Eachmethodwasbasedonchangesinamplitudeorspectrum(total power)ofanteriortibialiselectromyographysignalsduringthetransitionfromthe sleepstatetothewakestate.Toobtaintheresults,leave-one-out-cross-validation techniquewasadopted. Results:Totalsleeptimeoftheeachgroupwasabout8hours.Forhealthysubjects, themeanepoch-by-epochresultsbetweentimedomainanalysisandPSGdatawere 99%,71%,80%and0.64(sensitivity,specificity,accuracyandkappavalue), respectively.Forfrequencydomainanalysis,thecorrespondingvalueswere99%, 73%,81%and0.67,respectively.Absoluteandrelativedifferencesbetweensleep efficiencyindexfromPSGandourmethodswere0.8and0.8%(forfrequency domainanalysis).Inpatientswi
