Methods:Fourconveniencesamplesfromdifferentcountries(Australia,UK,SwedenandUSA)weresurveyed concerningtheirbeliefsabouttherelativeharmfulnessofsmokelesstobaccoandNRT.Studyparticipantswere giventheFactSheetthatexplainedthatnicotine,asusedbyconsumers,isnotparticularlyharmfulandexplained why.Theywereresurveyedoneweeklaterregardingtheirbeliefsabouttherelativeharmfulnessofsmokeless tobaccoandNRTandfutureintentionstousetheproducts. Results:Inallfoursamplesknowledgeincreasedbysimilaramountsandbeliefsregardingthelowerharmfulness ofsmokelesstobaccoincreased.However,misconceptionsremainedcommonandresponsestobeliefmeasures werenotalwaysconsistent.LikelihoodofuseofSTincreasedinallfoursamplesafterexposuretotheFactSheet, butinterestinNRTuseonlyincreasedintheUSsample. Conclusions:AFactSheetsuchasthisonecanhelpaddressmisconceptionsaboutNRTandsmokelesstobacco,at leastintheshortterm.However,asistrueofmosteducationalinterventions,exposuretoasingleeducational sessionisnotsufficienttoovercomemisperceptionsthatsmokershaveabouttherelativeharmfulnessoforal versuscombustibleformsofnicotinedelivery.
