Multiple roles of teachers - Dewey’s ‘Democracy and Education’ Du Hougan [Abstract] famous pragmatism of modern American educator John Dewey’s ‘Democracy and Education’ is a classic education, and its many educational philosophy is that we should understand and learn from, this article mainly from its role of teachers to explore its in the modern sense. [Keywords:] John Dewey Democracy and Education teacher’s role 1, John Dewey and ‘Democracy and Education’ (1) Dewey John Dewey (John Dewey ,1859-1952) was a well-known modern American pragmatism of philosopher and educator. In 1896, he founded the Chicago experimental school, the school is his philosophy, education, psychology laboratory. In fact, the experimental school is the practical application of Dewey’s educational thinking, through the educational practice of writing ‘Democracy and Education’ has accumulated a wealth of practical material. From his philosophy of pragmatism, this paper proposes ‘education is for life’, ‘school that social’ slogan, opposed to teacher-centered, and a preference of students from the constraints of teachers liberating. John Dewey argued that the new ‘three-center’ - Children’s Center, classroom activity centers, and direct personal experience center. This formulation in the 20th century is enormous progress, even if it is still significant. John Dewey was in May 1919 to 1921 had come to China to give lectures, toured 11 provinces and promote his philosophy of pragmatism and education. Dewey’s life always concerned about the relationship between education and democracy, he considered that this issue should cause particular concern to educators. The relationship between education and democracy, not just Dewey individuals concerned, nor is it an isolated problem has nothing to do with the other in many different areas of thinkers and scholars have taken this issue as their social and educational aspects of the key issues explored .
