On Improving the Students’Extensive Reading Comprehension in Senior High Schools 　　Nowadays， with the development of modern and advanced science and technology，Chinese people are working hard to make China a developed country and China is a developing country，as is known to all. This makes it necessary for our country to train people with higher education as many as possible，to learn a great deal from those who are over us in every field all over the world. So，，the most widely-used language in the world―English is getting more important and required to be learnt in middle schools throughout the country. Considering the present situation，the aim of English teaching in middle schools in our country，according to the teaching syllabus，is to train the students to listen，speak，read and write，to enable them to master the basic skills of speaking and writing in practice，to lay particular emphasis on the students reading skill so as to pave the way for their further learning and using the language properly. Specifically，in high schools，the students are required to master the basic skills of reading and writing in practice， to learn and be able to use more than 2000 words along with a certain number of phrases and idioms to be able to read independently the popular materials easier than the texts with the help of a dictionary. In recent years， even higher requirements in reading comprehension have been put forward according to the syllabus of National Matriculation English Test. Seeing that the skill of reading is so important that it has been a problem being discussed among the teachers―how to improve the students’ reading comprehension， in this article，Ill try to give my advice， as I have experienced， on how to train the students to read extensively and improve their reading comprehension in high school. 1.
