CD and DVD storage technologies can be classified as Optical storage Tracks, Sectors and clusters The magnetic disk is divided into magnetic circles called tracks. Tracks are divided into wedge shaped sectors. The group of sectors is called a cluster File allocation table(FAT) It is an operating system file that maintains a list of files and their physical location on the disk. DISKs,TAPEs,CDs, DVDs The microcomputer storage technology is classified into five major categories. They are floppy disk, hard disk, tape, CD and DVD. To compare all those devices we can apply the following four criteria Versatility, durability, capacity, speed Storage capacity is the maximum amount of data that can be stored on a storage medium Access time is the average time it takes a computer to locate data on the storage medium and read it.
