With the rapid development of capitalism, the conflict of social class had intensified at a great lick and the famous charter movement in British history broke out. Though Britain had reformed its bourgeois democracy and the government had also taken some reform measures on the surface. For example, the system of working ten hours for female workers pushed everywhere in Britain. The status of women in society had not been improved and had no equal rights. Historical background Part.2 Author’s life Charlotte Bronte, an English authoress was born into a rural pastor family of Yorkshire in which located north of Britain. Charlotte has tow older sisters, Maria and Elizabeth. Both her sister were sent to a boarding school. On account of odious conditions, typhoid fever was prevalent in school for second year, and Charlotte’s two sisters were infected and died in a few days. This terrible experience left fearful, unforgettable impression in her sole. Later in her novel “Jane Eyre”, she was full of deep feeling which was portrayed, and the girl Helen in the novel the lovely image, is with her sister Maria as the prototype. Part.2 Author’s life Charlotte went to wealthy families as a tutor twice times. The profession was discriminated against at the time. In a letter to her sister, Emily, she wrote,“private teachers, ...... it has no meaning, and is not regarded as a living and rational person at all.” So she quickly hated the profession of family teachers. Then, she and Emily went to French school in Brussels. But for Charlotte, in the year of Brussels, the most impressive thing to her was Mr. Ege. She loved him, but ended in failure.
