Methods 60 patients with knee osteoarthritis of syndrome of cold-damp obstructing the collaterals were randomly divided into the Jianbu Decoction for external washing group (Chinese medicine external washing group) and the Voltaren Ointment for external coating group (control group). The Chinese medicine external washing group used self-made Jianbu Decoction for the external washing of knee joint twice per day and 30 minutes per time while the control group used Voltaren Ointment for external coating twice per day, with 14 days as one treatment course. With the WOMAC score as the evaluation standards, the curative effects of both groups were observed. Results After treatment, the pain, physical function, stiffness scores and other scores significantly reduced compared with those before treatment (P 0.05). Two weeks later, the pain, physical function, stiffness scores and other scores between the two groups showed no statistically signif
