TheeffectofthephenolonmicrobialmetabolismandmembranefoulinginMBRsAbstractTheeffectofthephenolonmicrobialmetabolismandmembranefoulinginMBRsAbstractItistheguidelinetotreaturbansewagecentrallyforwaterpollutioncontrolinChina.Withthecontinuousimprovementofthemunicipalwastewatertreatmentfacilities,itismoreoftentoacceptindustrialwastewateralongthepipenet,ofwhichtheproportionisalsorising.Phenolasthetypicalindustrialwastetoxicpollutantwillinevitablyhaveaseriousinfluenceontheeffectofbiologicalwastewatertreatmenttechnology.Therefore,itisofgreatsignificanceinboththeoryandpracticetosystematicallystudytheinfluenceofphenolonmicrobialgrowthandmetabolisminthemunicipalsewagetreatmentsystem.Inourexperiments,wesystematicallystudiedthephenolinfluenceontheprocessofmicrobialgrowthandmetabolismbyusingfiveMBRsystemsatdifferentphenolstressintensity.Theresultsshowthatunderthesametotalsubstrateconcentration,themicrobespecificgrowthrateswere0.1026、0.1006、0.0812and0.0685d-1respectively,duetothepresenceofphenol.Comparedwiththereferencesystem,lowlevelsofphenolcanstimulatemicrobialgrowth,showingtheroleofmicrobialgrowthhormone;whentheconcentrationincreasedto115.2mg/L,todemonstratetoxicinhibition.IntheprocessofmicrobialEPSmetabolism,withtheincreasingproportionofphenolinwater,thetotalamountofEPSproducedbyperunitweightofmicrobedecreasedrespectivelyfromthereferencesystemof1922.94mg/g-MLSSto1425.31,1317.29,1272.06and1240.71mg/g-MLSS.ItcouldbeeasilyconcludedthattheEPSmicrobialmetabolismwasstronglyinfluencedwiththeincreasingphenollevel.AmongEPS,theamountofcarbohydratesismuchlargerthantheamountofprotein,andtheamountofmetaboliccarbohydratesdisplayedas―U‖-typelawalongwiththeincreasingphenolconcentration,indicatingaself-protectionmechanismthatunderthetoxicsubstance-phenolstress,microorganismsinMBRswereoftenthroughmetaboliccarbohydratestoachievethepurposeofanti-oxidation.WealsoexploredtheMBRmembranefoulingoffiveoftenusedpolymericAbstractTheeffectofthephenolonmicrobialmetabolismandmembranefoulinginMBRsmembranema
