Its high data transmitting rate and large transmitting bandwidth make the frequency-selective fading more severe. Space-Time RAKE Receiver, which is the combination of smart antenna and RAKE receiver, can fully utilize the spatio-temporal feature of the wireless channel, and implement both the spatial filtering and temporal RAKE combining. So the communication quality is improved. This paper focuses on the design of Space-Time RAKE Receiver for WCDMA uplink, including its system structure and signal processing algorithm. Simulations are also done to examine its ability on improving system performance. Based on the introduction of WCDMA uplink physical channels and wireless multi-path vector channels, the structure design of Space-Time RAKE Receiver for WCDMA uplink is analyzed, and the adaptive beamforming and channel estimation techniques are discussed. A novel channel estimation idea, which approximates the output of the beamformers as the channel complex gain, is proposed so that the algorithm can be simplified in some degree. A multi-slot LS Space-Time RAKE Receiver algorithm scheme is studied, in which the pilot bits are deemed as reference, and post-correlation signals within one frame are taken to compute the beamforming vectors with LS algorithm. To reduce the computational complexity, the RLS routine for updating the beamroming vectors is employed. Due to the comparably few samples, this scheme has the disadvantage that time average correlation is not accurate enough. The simulations demonstrate that the scheme can perform acceptably under static and slow fading environment, while deteriorate significantly under fast fading environment. To further improve system performance, another single slot RLS Space-Time RAKE Receiver algorithm scheme is proposed as the improvement of multi-slot RLS algo
