I I PAGE PAGE VI Abstract It has been more than ten years since China joined the World Trade Organization (WTO). More and more Chinese industrial products get into international market. Therefore, the demand for English translation of industrial product instruction is ever-increasing. The report material is provided by Shibang Foam Concrete Engineering Company Limited. It includes 4 parts: PHQJ—4 Foam Concrete Production Line Operation Manual, Electric Transport Vehicle Instruction, Foaming Machine Instruction and RGB20-75 Casting Machine Instruction. The text belongs to industrial product instruction. It mainly introduces the structure, usage, operating principle, direction and maintenance of these four industrial products. There are several problems in translation process: how to translate the technical terms; how to translate the long sentences and compound sentences; how to deal with the problematic parts. The translator chooses Skopos theory, which is founded by the famous German translation professor Hans Vermeer to support my paper writing. For him, translation is a type of human action, an intentional, purposeful behavior that takes place in a given situation. Skopos theory also contains three basic principles: skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. Under the guidance of this theory, the translator follows the purpose of translation, resolves all doubts and difficulties in translation, faithfully shows the original meaning of the source text and attempts to make the translation more practical and appealing. The report consists of six parts: the introduction, four chapters and conclusion. Chapter 1 is the description of the translation task.
