A Comparative Study of Basic Business Chinese and Business Chinese Conversation

Abstract: Chinas development ,both in intemational status and economic standing,has brought it new attention from all over the world. As a result ,people worldwide are realizing the importance of Mandarin Chinese,inc1uding business-specific Chinese language. For this reason ,materials for teaching Business
Chinese have become a top priority in many classrooms. This paper will examine a variety of such materials used though the 20th centu叩, over a period of the last 90 years. This will include the characteristics of Business Chinese,through a comparison between two textbooks ,Basic Business Chinese (Liu,2006) and Business Chinese Conversation (Huang,2007 ). It will also include an exploration of rules for writing Business Chinese textbooks in order to provide a reference for the creation of future textbooks.
This paper wi1l first introduce the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) Theory, and discuss its uses in teaching Business Chinese. It wi1l also discuss the relationship between the teaching of basic Chinese language and Business Chinese. We believe that basic Chinese language is the comerstone of Business Chinese,and
th创 Business Chinese cannot be mastered without first leaming basic Chinese language.
Next ,this paper will compare and analyze the sections oftwo different kinds of
two textbooks ,Basic Business Chinese and Business Chinese Conversation. We will find that both sections of text 缸e in dialogue form,with Basic Business Chinese
