I I 中西文化的交融合流——对赛珍珠《帝王女人》的解读 摘 要 在中美文学史上，赛珍珠是一位非常特殊的女作家。由于长期生活在中国，她对中国 和中国文化的了解甚至超过了对美国和美国文化的了解，也自然而然地形成了中西双重文 化身份。1938 年，她以中国题材的小说荣获诺贝尔文学奖，从而使她这个“文化混血儿” 享誉文坛。因此，赛珍珠与其文学创作值得我们从中西文化交融互渗的角度加以研究。 笔者选取《帝国女人》，从赛珍珠双重文化的独特身份切入，在中西文化交融的背景 中探讨她的双重叙事特征，阐发两种文化的审美特质，并通过她笔下的女性人物对她的创 作进行文化思考。 首先，立足于作家的身份，赛珍珠展现给大众一个东西二元文化交融的文学世界，清 晰地传达出她对中西文化的思考：她立足于中国人的立场，从中国人的视角来观察小说人 物的心理、喜恶、情感和情绪，灵活运用中国文学的叙事方法，铺展情节，凸显极具中国 特色的艺术风格。同时，由于赛珍珠受到家庭、教育等多种因素的影响，所以，她的创作 必然带有鲜明的西方文学的特征，如狄更斯风格、莎士比亚风格、基督博爱情怀等。 其次，立足于女性的身份，赛珍珠本能地关注女性的命运，始终思考着女性的问题， 塑造了一系列令人过目难忘的女性形象：默默无闻、逆来顺受的阿兰；被新式思想改造的 桂兰；代表有理想、有知识的进步女子的梅琳 这些女性其实都杂糅了赛珍珠的中西双 重文化意识。 最后，中西叙事手法与女性意识集中体现在历史长篇小说《帝王女人》中。《帝王女 人》是赛珍珠唯一一部以中国历史人物为塑造原型的小说，其在中国文化环境中，又带有 西方文化的冲突和融合。异质文化的相遇、相交、相融，使赛珍珠塑造出一个区别于其他 中国作家所描写的慈禧：既传统又反叛的人物形象；既有中国妇女传统的礼仪、孝道，又 有西方文化下的自我意识，是一个中西兼收的形象。 笔者认为赛珍珠的作品在跨语言、跨文化的这种特殊的文化语境中具有重要的启示意 义，对她及其创作进行深入细致地研究具有重要的理论意义和现实意义。 关键词 赛珍珠，中西文化，帝王女人，女性观 The Blending of the Chinese and Western Culture: Interpretation on Pearl Bucks “Imperial Woman” Abstract In the history of American literature, Pearl S.
