II II Abstract The gentleman personality of “the Analects of Confucius”, which is the model of Confucian ideal personality. Confucius takes gentleman as the carrier to approach his idea and gives rich connotations to it. This dissertation aims to adhere to the viewpoint of historical materialism, takes selecting the essence, abandoning the dross as the principle, through scientific analysis and understanding of gentleman personality, in order to find the theory evidence of the traditional thoughts of personality and bring its value into play. Based on the problems of the current condition of modern administrative personality, this paper explores the shaping ways of contemporary administrative personality. Through drawing nutrition from the excellent traditional resources, we can expand the shaping ways of modern administrative personality, and enrich the research of gentleman personality of “the Analects of Confucius”. This dissertation is divided into four chapters. Chapter I: introduction. First of all, this section sets out the source of subject, and then analyzes the background of the subject, the significance of the subject, the relative research of administrative personality and gentleman personality both at home and abroad, then puts forward the study thoughts and methods. Chapter II: the background and the main content of the thoughts of gentleman personality. The background of the thoughts of gentleman personality includes the historical background and the context of Confucius’ personal growth. “Ren”(humanity), “zhi”(intelligence) and “yong”(courage), which are the three essential factors of gentleman personality. The self-cultivation ways of gentleman personality includes: self-denial and self-examination; learning and thinking; the medium; practise; perform the rites. Chapter III: the significance and evaluation of gentleman personality to traditional Chinese society. Traditional Chinese society is deeply influenced by gentleman personality, especially t
