Since ancient times is the north-south traffic artery. With its superior natural conditions,until the period of the republic of China, it still be the most active of the military,economic and cultural exchanges artery political from north to south. On the basis analysis of historical and geographical background of the ancient road between Nanzhang and Xiangyang, use fixed space and defense wall building types as the main research object，the duct area south of town during the Ming and qing dynasties as the main research area,the urban space form of defense,the historical and cultural fusion and the wall building distribution,building techniques and differences in research content are discussed. First of all, based on the research of Chinese and western ancient city defense, space systems, introduce defense space formation and evolution of urban areas. Under the factors of military, geography, politics, economy and culture, formed the unique south duct area of defense, space and the wall of the building. Sum up its come from the pre-Qin period, developed on Qin,Han,Wei and Nan-Bei dynasties, the rise and fall of Sui and Tang dynasties period.
