PAGE PAGE 2 Research on the Emergency Management Mechanism of the University Abstract The reform and development of our country is now in a critical period. We face the rare strategic opportunity and meanwhile, various contradictions would inevitably appear due to the breakthrough of the reform of economic and political system as well as the adjustment of the interest relationship, making our current society is in a prominent time of contradictions. As an important element of the society, colleges and universities draw people’s attention to their security and stability. In recent years, college and university emergencies occur frequently, causing the instability of campus. Therefore, it is of great significance to build and perfect the mechanism of emergency management in colleges and universities. Through a lot of reading, the author summarizes problems on emergency management of Chinese universities such as teachers’ and students’ lack of safety concept, the lack of emergency practice, weak system construction of university emergency management and deficit in organizational system. In addition, emergency response mode has lagged behind, the information communication mechanism of emergency management is imperfect and also a small number of college counselor with low degree of specialization. Hence, there are six significant areas to improve the present situation, including the prevention mechanism, decision-making mechanism, security mechanism, psychological intervention mechanism, information dissemination mechanism and recovery mechanism. Furthermore, strategies to improve the college emergency management should be come up with, which can reduce the costs of school’s response to emergencies and can be better maintaining the normal operation of the college and healthy development in order to create a safe, stable and harmonious campus environment.
