Innovative Applications Research of Traditional Cloud-pattern in Modern Fashion Design Abstract Traditional cloud-pattern is one of pattern common seen in Chinese traditional auspicious patterns, which plays a very important role in Chinese decoration history. Through thousands of years’ development and evolution, the cloud-pattern, with its rich and various form feature and unique artistic charm, shows Chinese people’s great creativity to transform natural phenomena into artistic images.Cloud-pattern symbolizes pleasure and fortune, and with deep culture connection, it embodies Chinese special culture spirit of flowing grace and inner humanity. The application of traditional pattern to modern clothing design is not only a way to inherit Chinese traditional culture but also a practical research on the application modern clothing.The principle clue of this paper is the historical development of cloud pattern, and this paper analyzes and summarizes the types and language features of cloud-pattern in different historical period, and application rules in traditional clothing from three aspects: decorative layout, color feature and art performance. Then this paper emphasizes the research on the application principle and innovation method in modern clothing design by analyzing related picture information and experiments on sample fabric. Finally, this paper attempts to accomplish series of clothing design, show traditional cloud-pattern’s new image under a new era background, and to satisfy modern people’s need for clothing innovation. Meanwhile, I hope this paper can arouse people to think deep to innovate and reapply the traditional design elements.
