City symbol can arouse the public sense of the townsmen, making them active in city construction and environmental protection. The meaning of city symbol is to identify the city, and is one of the effective ways to promote the development of city. On the one hand, it helps people realize the city in new level, on the other hand, it also demonstrate its development blueprint. As the gradual development of modern society, people play great importance to city symbol more and more. Based on the study on semiotics theory, we went through the research on city symbol ,emphasized the importance of the city history and personality, and analyzed city symbol from the perspective of the image of the city . The second, investigating the city image of Ganzhou from the perspective of urban cognition of residents, using questionnaires, depicting the cognitive maps, the me thod of photographs cognitive . Then, on the basis of the survey result, we analysis the city image of Ganzhou, pursue perceptions and opinions about the ganzhou city of city residents, analysis the tradition city symbols from the characteristic and meaning of elements of Ganzhou city image. Finally, we should protect the traditional city symbol of Ganzhou and inherit them, it is basic premise of the formation of urban space characteristic, urban economic development and the urban residents living environment quality improvement, it is also the purpose of the thesis. From the perspective of the image of the city, I think the main tradition city symbol of Ganzhou is summarized as, urban road, Wenqing road, Hongqi avenue; urban boundary, three rivers, Wenqing road, ancient wall, Ganzhou dialect; Urban areas, the area of Ganzhou historical culture, the business district o f Wenqing road; urban nodes, the central square of Nan Menkou, Gui Jiaowei, floating bridge; urban landmark, the tower of Yu Gu, the tower of Ba Jing,
